Pretty good clip.

Okay I will admit this video is mainly for my own amusement, but Patrick may enjoy it if he turns the volume low and ignores the German at least for the 3 odd minutes of its duration.

I bet he can even name what film this is.

The British are Coming!

Questions are opportunities. Every time someone asks me a question there are two answers: the serious and the farcical. More often than not I provide a sardonic retort to the posed question.

It was with great difficulty that I resisted the urge to answer the innocuous request to “Briefly describe yourself” for my company’s weekly digest. Being one of the new hires, the communications director emailed me for some info. While I decided it would be best to play it straight, since my employer isn’t a comedy venue, part of me still wishes I went with this:

Half-Baked Night

Circling the narrow slushy streets of Chicago, I eventually found a space to store my car for the evening. The relative ease with which I found a place to park, turned out to be a poor indicator of the future of the night.

BCS declares Germany winner of WWII

Posted on Wednesday, January 21st, 2009 at 8:35 pm.

For the initiated, the BCS (Bowl Championship Series) is the current system determining who plays for the championship in college football, instead of a playoff, but is more famous for how much it outrages 90% of anyone who gives a damn about college football. Personally, I have trouble staying interested in college football precisely because of the BCS.

So in combination with my other interest(s), I found this recent Facebook group HILARIOUS:

After determining the Big-12 championship game participants the BCS computers were put to work on other major contests and today the BCS declared Germany to be the winner of World War II.

Obama Inauguration Today Noon EST

Posted on Tuesday, January 20th, 2009 at 9:17 am.

Today is the inauguration of our 44th President. It looks to be perhaps the largest gathering in US history, 2M+ expected; previous inaugural best was LBJ’s 1.2M. It should also be one of the most watched with hundreds of millions expected to tune in around the world if not into the 1Bn+ range.

Obviously we’ll all be watching for the inaugural speech to see if Obama’s oratory can match Lincoln’s 2nd, JFK’s, or FDR’s 1st inaugural speeches, which are largely considered the top 3. Lincoln’s probably a very distant stretch since it was perhaps the greatest speech in US history but we’ll have to see whether Obama can come up with anything as memorable as “fear not” or “ask not” or whether he’ll end up with a broadly optimistic speech similar to Reagan without any immediately powerful lines but still among the best.

I’ll probably update this later, but my personal feelings right now are a lot of emotion centered on the fact that he’s the first President who really represents what our generation stands for in terms of the whole post-racial, post-partisanship type of candidate.
