For Noobs Like Kevin Not Voting Early

Posted on Friday, October 31st, 2008 at 8:13 pm.

Figured I might as well post this; closing time for polls.

Note that you might want to pay attention at 7pm EST (although it may run late with massive turnout) for Indiana and Virginia.  If Virginia goes solidly blue and Indiana is too close to call, then we know who’s won.  If Virginia goes blue and Indiana goes red, then we might have to wait a bit longer.  If Virginia is too close to call and Indiana goes solidly red, then we’ll have to wait at least another 4-6 hours to see what happens in Colorado and Nevada.

34M Tune in for the Obama-mercial

I was pretty blown away by the quality of the Obama Infomercial that aired last night at primetime on NBC, FOX, CBS, MSNBC, and a few other networks. It was quite possibly the highest quality political production (Guggenheim produced) staged for an advertisement or anything of that nature. This kind of format has only been done a few times, but none of them were remotely close to this kind of quality. Sure you have Ross Perot and his charts in the 90s or Hillary and her Hallmark channel town hall event.

But this was primetime. This was like a documentary of the highest quality. The execution was amazing; the stories were amazing, and it had just enough testimonials to keep it grounded. Sure Obama isn’t a Morgan Freeman, but his voice came off very well as a strong narrator.

For those of you who want to watch it:

It was amazing how well they timed everything as well. They had the video play for 27 minutes and then moved to Florida, Live, immediately where Obama gave a closing speech. I have to think that this was possibly the most effective non-convention political advertisement that I’ve ever seen.

Yes, another one of those. I don’t know if anyone enjoys either post variety, but I like making them, so deal.

= *Red Ring of Death(‘d).  Yes, my 360 fell to its fate on the 24th, last month.  I was kind of hoping that once the one year mark passed, I would consider myself safe from the fairly common demise.

State of the Election 12 Days Out

Posted on Thursday, October 23rd, 2008 at 8:53 am.

Well this is the last time I’ll need to write one of these unless something dramatic changes.

Obama’s national lead is approximately 5-6 points right now, and that has been holding for the past 4-5 weeks since the financial crisis struck.

At this point he has a solid lock on 270 through the Kerry states while picking up Iowa and New Mexico (up to 264 EVs) as a given, and he has solid leads in the 6-8 point range in Colorado (9 EVs) and Virginia (13 EVs) that will ensure a Democratic victory unless something changes.

The problem for McCain has always been three-fold.
