This is why Rock Band for Wii still has a drum set.

New Beginnings

Edit 6:27 PM: Also, apparently the president of my former company had lunch with the Dalai Lama when he was visiting Madison earlier this week.

The picture of Chloe really has no relevance, but admit it, you clicked on it.

Dark Knight – I'll try to keep this spoiler-free. (Don't look till you see it)

Posted on Saturday, July 19th, 2008 at 8:57 pm.

I saw it on Saturday. Heath Ledger’s performance was amazing. He absolutely stole the show like everyone was saying as they left. Easily one of the best comic -> movie productions of perhaps all time. The story was gripping and the flow kept everything moving. In some sense it really became an ideological battle between the three as everything headed towards the climax and peons on all sides ended up becoming the decision makers which gave it a unique scope on the whole good/evil and justice themes and what drives people.

The only downside (or upside depending on how you look at it) is that it is a bit long at 2.5+ hours, so make sure you’re not drowsy like I was (saw it on 4-5 hours of sleep) and the guy next to me somehow fell asleep in spite of the action later on, although I was awake the whole time.

Other than that, I’m going to see it again at an IMAX theater for the huge screen and some 3D-scene experience. Figured someone should post since it looks to be a phenomenon.

66.4M was its first day take (breaking Spiderman 3’s 59M record) in a record 4366 theaters, and it also broke the midnight showing record with 18.5M for just its 12 AM showings although it did have 3 AM and 6 AM showings on Friday morning as well to keep it juiced for 24 hours straight. We’ll see whether it breaks Spiderman 3’s 151M record based on Saturday/Sunday’s numbers.

  • Update: Based on Sunday estimates it will likely make around 155M the first weekend, making it the biggest opening weekend of all time.

New Jibjab video about the Presidential Election.

Posted on Friday, July 18th, 2008 at 1:00 am.

These are the guys who released the videos in 2004 about Bush/Kerry, and they’re back with this gem about the 2008 Presidential Election.  Pretty enjoyable spoof of everything.  With all the flak about the New Yorker cover, I figured this was appropriate since this is the right way to do satire, in my opinion anyways.

Winter Classic, 2009

Posted on Wednesday, July 16th, 2008 at 1:50 pm.

After a month of rumors, the National Hockey League has announced they have awarded the 2009 Winter Classic to Wrigley Field. Wrigley, which narrowly beat out the soon-to-be-demolished Yankee Stadium, will host the NHL’s annual outdoor game on January 1, 2009, a game between Original Six rivals the Chicago Blackhawks and the Detroit Red Wings.

Race for Blanco

Posted on Wednesday, July 16th, 2008 at 10:39 am.

As a child (and arguably as an adult) my art skills weren’t even good enough to elicit platitudes comparing my work to abstract. I remember going to my grandma’s house and coloring. For school and at home, I had the standard box of eight crayons. But when I went to my gram’s I got to choose from 64, everything from sky blue to fire red and those sparkly ones. The rainbow in a box also had a white crayon, which had hardly been used.

As I fill out applications for internships and job openings I am increasingly irritated. In addition to causing posterior pain, the self-identification section is hurting my self-esteem.
