Happy Birthday Reinheitsgebot!

Today (Wednesday April 23, 2008) marks the 492nd anniversary of the German Reinheitsgebot, or German Purity Law. Unlike later German *cough* Nazi *cough* purity laws, the Reinheitsgebot, literally “Purity Law,” has nothing to do with race or the Volksgemeinschaft, and everything to do with my favorite German pastime: Beer.

The Reinheitsgebot was established in 1516 by Duke Wilhelm IV in the Bavarian city of Ingolstadt. It mandated that no beer brewed under his authority could contain more than these three ingredients: Water, Barley, and Hops. Do you all remember the *300 (PG version) trailer? Now a movie I’ve been looking forward to for a while…I hope they don’t screw it up like other video game movies. Especially since those who know me know Tetris is probably my favorite game (with *IQ being a close second).

Virginia Tech – 1 Year Anniversary

Edit – 4/21: made “tone” more consistent for less confusion.

It was on this day, one year ago, that the deadliest campus shooting in U.S. history occurred. Do you remember what you were doing?

I remember watching coverage on the news during the morning, all the news networks playing the same footage over and over again. In the afternoon I went to Nevin’s with Patrick and Dan for some drinks. The weather that day was what it was today, mid 60s and sunny. Our cute waitress wasn’t aware of what was going on when I asked her what she thought of it all, so we turned the channel on one of those glorious LCDs to CNN.
