another great day in Japan- DOUBLE SPEECH CONTEST OWNAGE!!!

Edit: Added Pictures for Dan. -K

I have to say that I’m quite proud of myself today. If I accomplish nothing else in Japan from this day forward (I hope this is not the case, but hey, who knows), I can say that I had at least one great victory as a teacher. For the past several weeks, I have been staying after school (and after official working hours) to work on English speech and roleplaying contest entries with my kids at Tomisuhara Junior High School.

I think we've all done a few of these before…

…at least at various college functions. I hope.

The birthday present one is probably my favorite.

A Momentous Occasion

I got a couch.

For those of you who deal with me on a semi-daily basis know that this has been an issue for over 2 months now…basically since I moved to Madison.

The Pinnacle of American Otakudom

I really should post more about Japan, but there’s a lot of ground to cover and if you don’t write consistently you just end up not knowing what to write about and not writing anything. I figure the best way to get over this problem is to occasionally write vignettes when I have a good day in Japan, so I’ll start with one here.

Halo 3

So a new feature in Halo 3 is the Theatre, where you can view all past games and take screenshots of any moments you want. Here are two I took recently:

I call this one “FUCK.”

I know, this is hardly original material, but I couldn’t help but enjoy this thoroughly. If you’re curious, it’s about the future of video games in approximately the next quarter century (and I guess all human-technology interfacing at that point).

The sort of techno-jargon in the article.

In other random news, I ordered a package online a while ago, and began to wonder why it hadn’t arrived. I ended up calling DHL, who claimed to have made three different attempts to deliver, with each attempt failing because I wasn’t present. Basically this is bullshit because my complex has a front office that accepts all packages, and I also didn’t ever get one of those failed delivery slips.

Anyway, I called customer service and was trying to get the address of the facility, but could barely make out what the operator was saying so I asked her to spell it out for me. The street name is Bartillon Drive, and she began with “B as in boy.” The interesting part was when she got to I, “as in eagle.” I assumed she meant E, but when I looked it up on google maps it was indeed I.

I for eagle, kids. I for eagle.
