I hate it when people say that! URGHHH I feel a strong need to vent; thank you softpillowcase for providing a place for it.
I think that anytime someone says “no offense, but…” then duh, some kind of offense is going to be taken. Not because I’m an overly sensitive person, but because usually, what that phrase prefaces is something that serves no actual purpose except for to be some kind of underhanded comment to cut the other person down, but you think it can be covered by your “no offense” gesture. That and, “don’t take this the wrong way, but…” and there are others that I can’t think of now… haha my sister hates it when people say “a gentle reminder” yeah that one isn’t great. It’s kind of like the game Sorry, where you bump someone for your own personal gain, and you say sorry, but it’s that snide kind of sorry that you don’t really mean (except for sometimes you really do feel bad, like if that one person is doing really poorly, before the point where they’re doing so poorly that it’s funny, ahh I love that kind of poor performance). Anyway, I have just been in a more peevable than usual mood this week, and certain people don’t seem to be picking up the hints, even after I say “I like walking by myself b/c I can listen to my ipod” or “boy, I can’t wait to just go home and take a nap, I’m going to take a nap, I love naps” or put my head down and try to squeeze in a quick rest between classes, and then they ignore those hints and go on and keep following, keep talking, and keep using their no offense offensiveness to offend me, multiple times. Quit crossing me! No one I know ever says that unless they mean to do some kind of harm but want to disguise it. I wish I was better at getting people to leave me alone.
OFFENSE TAKEN. >:I
