Teaching in LA – a much needed update

My first post to Kevin’s site since he made me an author during the summer/early fall. Wow, what a great friend I am. But now, Kev, you can be proud. Yay =P

For those of you who don’t know me, I’m doing Teach For America in Los Angeles. As a first year high school science teacher in south/central LA, life is…interesting, hectic, hard, etc. But I’m currently on break since I’m at a track school. In Los Angeles, there are so many students that many schools have year-round schools in which you teach (are “on”) for 4 months, and “off” for 2 months, then back on for four, etc. They have 3-4 of these tracks which are staggered by about 2 months so that there are only 2/3 of the students in the school at a time. Otherwise there would just be too many kids. So, I’m off until March 3, which is approaching pretty soon….
